Whether I boot from the DVD or attempt to install from within XP, I get the following error:
"Setup could not get information about the disks on your computer"
My Vista Build:
6.0.5384.4 (winmain_beta2.060518-1455)
My disk configuration is:
Disk 0 - NTFS - Serial ATA
Disk 1 - NTFS - USB
My computer has RAID, but I'm currently not running it (as I thought that my be the issue)...
Also, the Install appears to work fine on my Laptop, just not on my desktop, so the DVD itself appears valid.
....any information would be appreciated.

Setup could not get information about the disks on your comp
It *might* help.. check this for alternate solutions to running setup. http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.php?getstarted
If it is a harddrive error... well, wait for Andre to reply.

This is something Microsoft can only diagnose. I suspect you navigate to C:\%windows.~bt\sources\panther\setupact.log in XP since you tried setup from their, attach that log and send it to Microsoft using the feedback tool on your desktop, which contains a link to download the reporting tool. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Andre,
Thanks a lot for the information. After reading through the setupact.log that you pointed out, I realized that it was finding my primary drive without issue, but was failing on my external USB hard drive (which I wasn't planning on using)...
I unplugged my external USB hard drive and the setup works.
Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction...

With what you've found out, I think the reason I'm getting the same problem may be by my raid array, even though it's not my primary drive. I'm gonna disable it and try setup again. *crosses fingers*

If I have my two sata's (in raid 0) plugged in I get the same error, and the install cant proceed. If I unplug the sata's I can install to a partition on the ide, but then I cant successfully reinstall the raid

I first attempted to boot straight from the DVD to install Vista but didn't get past the "choose hard drive to install on" because I got this error: "Setup could not get information about the disks on your computer". After which there was no error or debug information, only this vague message with no hints/tips on fixing it. It then proceeds to rollback the install.
The second attempt I tried to start the install from Windows XP SP2. I load up the DVD and go into the install, it checks for updates, restarts install, asks for the key, then asks which drive to install it on. I chose my secondary hard drive (for specs see below). I then proceeded to load the drivers for nforce (beta 2 drivers from nvidia) so it would recognize my drives and my RAID 0. It then copies and extracts the files onto my secondary drive, then reboots and continues with the install.
Upon reboot, it the resumes the install process, but the first thing it tells me is "Setup could not get information about the disks on your computer." I've loaded the drivers for my nforce board via the option while I was in XP, but once I reboot it won't find ANY of my drives. It then proceeds to roll back the install (uninstall) again.
I am just upset because there seems to be a lack of feedback on why I am receiving this error. No error code, do debug information, no log (that I'm aware of)... I have no information to base my diagnosis upon to research.
As of now it's preventing me from installing Vista and the "Setup could not get..." message is the only message I get.

If you do a search you will find this problem repeated over 20 times. There is an issue with Nvidia chipsets and installing Vista. I don't meen to sound harsh but everyday 10 people say they have this same excact problem when all they have to do is search this forum for the fix. -- AMD-FX-60 2gb OCZ Plat. memory ATI 1800 AIW 2x74gb Raptors in RAID-0 2x400gb WD HDD in RAID-1 Epox Nvidia-4 Ultra M/B Senior Member Overclockers.com

I did a search and found nothing on this particular error, just lots of threads referring other install issues. Sorry for the repost.
Here is a relative post I'll try, but I have an nForce 3 system, not 4, I'll give it a try: http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/vista-beta2-and-nforce-sataraid-an-installation-guide-vt66299.html?sid=a1c81053a03f1d8105500dfd10ae7215
